JOB GOAL: Major focus of work involves higher-level project management and execution of the engineering, installation, security, maintenance, and administration of network resources and complex district-wide systems for the school district.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Five years or more of related work experience as an infrastructure & systems engineer, network engineer, systems engineer, support analyst, network administrator, systems administrator, technology instructor, programmer or programmer/analyst in a similar hardware and software environment.
2. Master's degree or Bachelor's degree with relevant certifications. Additional experience may be substituted for education.
3. Knowledge of the network hardware and systems used in the district.
4. Ability to plan, troubleshoot, and manage current infrastructure, telecom and data systems, and security.
5. Ability to make emergency decisions concerned with power, equipment failure, and similar disturbances.
6. Ability to work and perform under pressure; ability to work independently and self-motivated.
7. Ability to manage multiple complex tasks with minimal direction.
8. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with staff and to work as a member of a team through excellent oral and written communication skills.
9. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Serves as high-level technical engineering leader on complex projects for the district through all stages of research, development, and implementation.
  • Works closely with department staff to ensure interoperability and standardization of district-wide technical systems.
  • Collaborates with department staff and members of other departments to engineer and integrate technology solutions for new or existing applications and to provide consultation and support of district-wide information processing needs
  • Installs, configures and maintains critical systems and applications software necessary to support core district services including, but not limited to, administrative and instructional servers, LAN/WAN switching and routing equipment, wireless infrastructure components, VoIP equipment, directory services, client/server applications, e-mail services, web services, database back-end services, content filtering, enterprise wireless broadband, dark fiber infrastructure, IoT, and other technical systems;
  • Configures and maintains operating systems, network operating systems and internetworking operating systems critical to the operation of central and remote data centers.
  • Engineers and manages all aspects of the VoIP telephone network including, but not limited to, call-processing servers, voicemail servers, gateway and circuit termination equipment, and coordinates service implementation from the local telephone company.
  • Functions as central systems and network administrator to maintain and control user databases and system security for Enterprise directories, services and system
  • Provides high-level technical troubleshooting and problem resolution for hardware, software, and core systems.
  • Maintains regular backups of servers and systems.
  • Regularly performs hardware and software maintenance for enterprise systems during evenings or weekends as necessary.
  • Reviews systems load statistics and status reports, and tunes systems for maximum operating efficiency.
  • Maintains documentation of systems, networks and operational information.
  • Performs cost analysis for automation including justifications for additional hardware, software and networking infrastructure.
  • Prepares reports and graphical presentations from collected data to provide administrators with information for data-driven decision making.
  • Evaluates and tests emerging technologies, and makes recommendations for future integration;.
  • Evaluates and makes suggestions concerning the department's standards which would facilitate improved operations.
  • Conducts limited user training on hardware and software usage;.
  • Provides status reports to supervisor and management.
  • Participates in the department's collaborative teamwork concept.
  • Meets departmental and organizational deadlines.
  • Performs various other activities as required and when necessary.

REPORTS TO: Director of Technology
EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated on the ability and effectiveness in carrying out the above responsibilities. Performance in this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.
COMPENSATION: $56,000 - $66,000 Based on experience and education
