<strong>Posting Number:</strong> <p>H0429P</p> <strong>Classification:</strong> <p>Hourly</p> <strong>Position Title:</strong> <p>Supervising Dentist</p> <strong>Status of Position:</strong> <p>Part-Time</p> <strong>FLSA:</strong> <p>Non Exempt</p> <strong>Position Summary:</strong> <p>The dental department is seeking multiple part-time, supervising dentists to support the dental clinic open to the public where dental hygiene students practice their clinical skills. Reviewing medical history, completing patient exams, and conducting patient screeningsare an integral part of this position.</p> <strong>Essential Responsibilities:</strong> <p>* Review medical history of medically complex patients and determine if medical consultation is required before treatment.* Complete patient exams annually (including periodic, comprehensive, oral cancer screenings, and/or school exams) for patients undergoing clinical treatment only.* Conduct patient screenings for periodontal disease.* Enter exam notes into patient's EagleSoft chart* Provide patient referralso One referral is completed for each patient (1) after radiographs, if exposed, and (2) after the dentist's clinical exam, and<br />o any time deemed necessary.* Authorize sealants* Authorize radiographs and retakes* Manage radiology log book including checking in/out of sensors, and tracking student retakes* Personally evaluate radiographs assigned by youo Radiographs must be evaluated and returned to faculty of record within 2 weeks of student submission.<br />* Review radiographs with students who require assistance in identifying landmarks or who ask for justification of their evaluated radiographs..* Provide direct supervision for local anesthesia administration (IL requires a dentist to be present -"in the building"-while hygienists administer local anesthesia.)* Provide direct supervision for clinical Nitrous Oxide rotations* Assume responsibility for client management during medical emergencies in the dental hygiene clinic (refer to p. 32, Clinic Manual).* Provide palliative care in case of minor dental issues including placement of temporary fillings or cementation of temporary crowns.</p> <strong>Minimum Qualifications:</strong> <p>1. DDS (Doctor of Dental Surgery) or DMD (Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry or Doctor of Dental Medicine) degree from an accredited institution is required.2. Five years experience as a practicing dentist.3. Valid Illinois Dentist License.4. Working knowledge of an Associate Degree Dental Hygiene Program/Philosophy.5. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.6. Effective interpersonal skillsnecessary to interface with students and the general public.7. Demonstrated proficiency in the use of computers and their common instructional applications.8. Excellent analytical skills.9.
