  • Position Summary
    • The House Supervisor will oversee clinical operations of the facility by planning, organizing, directing and coordinating nursing units. The House Supervisor will identify opportunities for improvement in nursing operations consistent with current policies and procedures. The House Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of RNs, LPNs and CNAs providing clinical expertise to staff as needed, as well as interfacing with physicians. Clinical management is conducted in collaboration with other health care team members by maintaining cooperative relationships, applying management principles, relating and working effectively with others, and effectively communicating.
  • Education and Experience Requirements
    • EDUCATION:
      • Required:
        • Associates Degree in Nursing
      • Preferred:
        • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
    • LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
      • Required:
        • Valid Iowa Nursing License or from a reciprocating state
        • BLS
        • ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC & Stable within one year of hire
      • Preferred:
        • Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner
          Certification by accredited body in area of most experience
    • TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
      • Required:
      • Preferred:
        • Two - three years Acute Care experience
  • Essential Job Functions
    • Supervises team members to accomplish the plan of care for each hospital department.
    • Reports and records pertinent observations and reactions regarding staffing changes or nursing issues, and provides follow up to assure resolutions.
    • Assigns/delegates nursing care to team members in accordance with patient needs and personnel's capabilities and qualifications.
    • Communicates regularly with supervisor regarding patient, staff, scheduling concerns/changes and follows the chain of command in a concise objective manner.
    • Exercises primary responsibility for managing the hospital and units when supervisory staff is not available.
    • Able to complete the orientation checklist items within one year of employment.
    • Respects and maintains confidentiality of patient and hospital information.
    • Provides outstanding customer service to all patients, families, visitors, and team members, as evidenced by use of AIDET, hourly rounding, bedside report, prompt response to call lights and patient needs, and other Studer principles.
    • Assess the patient's physical, psychological, social and environmental status specific to age.
    • Administers medications/blood products and treatments as ordered by the physician or midlevel consistently and accurately.
    • Recognize and identify cardiac rhythms implementing appropriate nursing care according to unit policy and ACLS protocol. Will also be current with all ACLS, BLS, PALS, TNCC, NRP, Mandt & Stable within one year of hire.
    • Maintains and grows nursing skills by attending all required/mandatory educational offerings, completing all assigned competencies in a timely manner, and maintaining, at a minimum, those required by job description.
    • Performs all other duties as assigned.
