Minimum Education Level

High School Diploma / GED

Minimum Experience Level

Two years of experience conducting criminal investigations and enforcement as a Law Enforcement Officer

Certifications

State of Oregon DPSST Basic Police Certificate or equivalent from another state or federal agency

Oregon Driver's License required
Position requires extensive use of county vehicles

You must be free of conviction of a crime designated under the law where the conviction occurred as being punishable as a felony or as a crime for which a maximum term of imprisonment of more than one year may be imposed; or of violating any law involving the unlawful use, possession, delivery, or manufacture of a controlled substance, narcotic, or dangerous drug. Dishonorable or undesirable discharge from the military is cause for disqualification. Must be able to pass a law enforcement background check. A psychological assessment will also be administered.

Job Conditions and Physical Demands

Locations and times/dates of service are dictated by special assignment. Hours of service may include working days, swing, and work on holidays. Work is mainly in a vehicle, outdoors, hazardous and potentially high risk. Occasional contact with violent and combative individuals. Exposure to abusive language and threats.

Requires sufficient hand/eye coordination to operate police equipment, and visual acuity necessary for performing necessary functions of the job; ambulatory ability to walk and run while at work.
  • Ability to subdue a resistive or combative individual.
  • Requires speech and auditory abilities sufficient to carry on conversations and project voice among large crowds.
  • May be exposed to extreme weather conditions for extended periods.

  • Physical Ability: Tasks involve the ability to exert moderate physical effort in light to heavy work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate to heavy weight (12-75 pounds).
