1. Active practical nurse license (LPN) in Tennessee
2. Current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
3. Minimum one year experience as an LPN
4. Knowledge of growth and development and health problems/conditions commonly seen among school-age children
5. Knowledge of the treatment and nursing care needs of children with special health problems
6. Maintains expertise by continuing education in current treatment and care of children in school settings
7. Demonstrates competence in carrying out nursing tasks delegated by RNs
JOB GOAL
To provide nursing and other health-related activities which enhance the health and wellbeing of school children under the supervision of a licensed physician, dentist, or professional registered nurse
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Under the direction of the system wide registered nurse, the licensed practical nurse:
1. Carries out specific nursing tasks and activities identified by the RN
2. Observes students on a regular basis to detect health needs
3. Maintains up-to-date individualized health records
4. Reports to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on student health matters as directed by the RN
5. Visits student homes when necessary
6. Administers first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures
7. Makes recommendations to the system wide RN on health needs of individual students
8. Implements board policy on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases
9. Participates in inservice training programs
10. Performs other duties as assigned

This job may require lifting of objects that exceed 25 pounds with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Other physical demands that may be required are as follows:

1. 7.5 hour workday
2. 185-day contract
3. LPN salary scale (teacher assistant scale)
