Job purpose:
This position is responsible for processing transactions relating to Accounts Payable processed for the Montpelier, Houston, St. Paul and Toronto facilities of SSAB. Clerical and administrative support to other areas of the Montpelier finance and administrative areas will also be required.
Duties and responsibilities:

  • Receive, process and maintain supplier invoices in the SSAB Accounts Payable and General Ledger systems. This task includes general payables, freight, major raw materials and other invoices as needed. Processing of Accounts Payable will also include matching invoices to payments, and maintaining electronic records of all such transactions;
  • Provide weekly statistical Reports to management
  • Prepare month end Accounts Payable accrual journal entries and reports associated with outstanding amounts as well as amounts cleared in previous periods;
  • Reconcile accounts as assigned
  • Participate in assisting and maintaining of Vendor/Supplier master file data by initiating requests to add vendors, modify existing vendors, and/or inactivating vendors no longer used.
  • Troubleshoot areas of concern within Accounts Payable including unpaid amounts, incorrect payments, missing invoices, and other potential oversights;
  • Collect and interpret vendor statements to ensure accuracy of SSAB vendor payment processing and completeness of internal Accounts Payable records;
  • Assist vendors with issues that affect their payments via telephone conversations with same, electronic exchanges of information (e-mail, etc.).
Qualifications: Education and Experience:
Required Education:
  • Associates degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration
Preferred Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration
Required Experience:
  • Knowledge of accounting and recordkeeping processes
  • Experience and/or knowledge of accounts payable processing flows is preferable
  • Good organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks
  • Good computer skills and attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
Working conditions:
The employee will frequently be required to:
  • This position operates in an office environment. The role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, scanners, and postage meters. This role is partially sedentary, sitting for several hours at desk and walking to/from and standing at alternative work areas (e.g. photocopiers, paper shredders, mailroom); alternate sitting and standing as needed. Filing and handling materials is required. This position requires the use of hands to hold, handle, reach with hands and arms and to lift and/or carry items up to 30 lbs.

Position Type - Work Hours - Travel Requirements:
  • Position is full time, non-exempt, and is eligible for overtime.
  • Position works an eight (8) hour day shift, Monday through Friday, occasional overtime may be required.
  • Travel for this position is limited and expected to comprise less than 1% of work hours.
