What We Want Sponsored Research Services is seeking a Senior Data Analyst that will be responsible for serving as a Sponsored Research Services functional representative to retrieve requested data from queries and reports for research productivity and administration. This position gathers, compiles, analyzes, interprets and reports research data while developing and maintaining the Division’s research administration database of research data. The preferred candidate will have previous professional work experience in data collection, analysis, interpretation, and reporting. Knowledge with FAMIS, Data Warehouse, Business Objects, Maestro, Academic Analytics and Power BI/Tableau is a plus.

Hybrid/Remote Work Option: Due to the nature of this position, a hybrid or remote work arrangement may be available for workplace flexibility. Qualifications Required Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Four years of related experience in data collection and analysis, and using data management information systems.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to participate in and foster a collaborative team environment.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to gather information requirements, retrieve accurate information and present that information in an understandable form.

Aptitude and willingness to learn new data analysis tools and methodology.

Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Experience with word processing and spreadsheets.

Preferred Qualifications: Professional work experience in data collection, analysis, interpretation, and reporting.

Knowledge with FAMIS, Data Warehouse, Business Objects, Maestro, Academic Analytics and Power BI/Tableau preferred.

Ability to design, develop, conduct, and assess effectiveness of programs and applications, specifically with research productivity and administration.

Ability to work well under constraints of deadlines and on projects with short turn-around.

Ability to work with people of all backgrounds..

Experience with PowerPoint and Access.

Responsibilities Data Analysis & Reporting - Develops and maintains the Division’s research administration database of research data, including all reports and analysis of research data, research proposals, awards, expenditures, and other research-related metrics. Collects data and develops, maintains, and updates databases for specialized and complex reporting and projects. Verifies inconsistencies in data extracted from Maestro research administration system and from various agency financial systems when preparing reports. Produces consolidated responses (combining University and TAMUS agencies) to numerous required surveys, including the NSF Higher Education R&D Survey, the THECB (Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board) annual survey of R&D expenditures, and the NIH Annual Survey of Expenditures. Provides official reporting of research metrics for the University and its service agencies (AgriLife Research & Extension, TEES, TTI, TVMDL, TAMHSC, System Office, TAMUG, Texas A&M Research Foundation). Prepares, maintains, and presents historical and comparative data for internal and external reports. Performs steps to promote the accuracy of the research reports produced such as comparing year over year results and validating results with stakeholders. Performs other duties as assigned.

Audit Coordination - Assists in coordinating with internal and external auditors. Works with auditors to schedule audit work. Attends entrance and exit meetings. Prepares data populations. Works to provide requested documentation. Assists in the development of management responses to audit observations.

Data Integrity, Accuracy and Quality Assurance - Coordinates the collection of data from various sources including University financial systems and the research administration system (Maestro) to manipulate data into proper format for responses to various surveys and assessments required by external federal and state agencies, and for responses to requests from university administrators and offices. Reviews data attributes in FAMIS and Maestro systems for new funding sponsors, research accounts and projects and prepares exception reports to ensure data fields are complete to enable accurate reporting of R&D metrics (expenditures, awards, and proposals). Develops, maintains and updates procedures for integrating University data. Assists with planning and organizing activities related to database systems. Consults with personnel from Texas A&M and its agencies to ensure data is consistent and accurate across reporting units. Performs quality assurance activities related to sponsored projects within Sponsored Research Services, including the review of internal controls, sponsored research records, and processes. Performs process mapping to document processes and identify opportunities for improvement. Works with auditors to assist in the development of management responses to audit observations.

Performance Metrics - Assists in preparing monthly and quarterly performance metrics. Collects, compiles and reports on performance measurement data. Performs ad-hoc data analysis to assist management in achieving objectives.

Technical support & raining - Advises the Director of Research Reporting on resolutions to problems involving incomplete data fields and attributes related to research reporting, troubleshooting, and providing advanced technical support. Research problems, recommends, and implements solutions. Serves as a staff resource, providing technical assistance and consultation to other staff working on assessment activities. Provides expertise and reports on evaluation needs, methodologies, results and action items, where needed. Confers with personnel to troubleshoot and provide advanced technical support to resolve problems involving procedural and technical matters.
