Director of Corporate Operations

The Director of Corporate Operations is responsible for overseeing and supporting the operational efficiencies of U.S. and Canada field locations. They will ensure compliance across the board with federal agencies (Canada - ERD, Transportation CA & U.S. - ATF, DOT, MSHA, OSHA, DHS) and state specific regulations. They will ensure that safety is a priority in all aspects of our work. They are responsible for working with Division leaders to manage resources to meet Corporate goals and business objectives.

This role is responsible for identifying key performance indicators for direct reports and providing feedback to ensure success of the team, which includes the team in SHES, Transportation, Regulatory, Risk and Claims, Licensing and Leases. The position is part of our Executive Leadership Team and reports directly to the President of U.S. and Canada.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

Acts as the Corporate contact for ATF, DOT, DHS, MSHA, and OSHA.

Lead and maintain a high level of awareness, preparation, and response to safety and security-related risks as well as regulatory compliance.

Review, track and investigate high potential near misses with the SHES team.

Review, track and investigate theft/loss & product inventory discrepancies, CMV accident investigations, Security breach investigations, and lost time root cause analysis.

Review and track commercial drivers' behaviors and speed trends.

Support field management teams with insurance claims.

Manage field employee uniform initiative.

Work with legal counsel on large claim settlements, property leases, and vendor contracts.

Develop and implement annual budget for Corporate Operations.

Establish agreed upon goals and objectives for direct reports with measurable outcomes and/or key performance indicators. Coach, manage, and develop direct reports to understand KPI measures and budgets. Address behaviors and discipline consistently.

Ensure the company has the talent to execute its strategies by hiring and developing a strong team and making succession planning a core business process.

Knowledge of product's physical and chemical properties as well as safety precautions for handling, storing and transporting a plus.

Consult on site setups, closures, and asset placements.

Participate in investigations of accidents and incidents to determine root cause and communicate findings to appropriate parties.

Assist in developing and enforcement of standard operating procedures.

Represent Austin Powder with the Institute for Manufacturers of Explosives (IME).

Education and Experience

A Bachelor's degree in Environmental Safety, Business Management, or in a related field. Equivalent experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

10+ years of experience in Safety compliance with extensive knowledge of Occupation Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) regulations (OSHA/MSHA), Bureau of Alcohol, tobacco, firearms and Explosives (ATF), and Department of Transportation (DOT).

10+ years of industry experience in transportation, manufacturing, explosive applications, and/or mining.

10+ years of direct supervisory experience with responsibilities that included hiring and accountability for performance management.

Minimum of 5+ years working experience and knowledge of regulatory compliance, regulatory audits, and working with regulators.

OSHA, MSHA, and CPR certifications are a plus.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

Working knowledge of Operations activities.

Strong working knowledge of industry regulations.

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical matters with abstract and concrete variables.

Strong communication skills to present information concisely to executives, customers, employees, and peers whether written or verbal.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with executives, managers, employees, customers, and vendors.

Ability to think critically and continuously make decisions for the department.

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams.

Work Environment

Office setting with partial remote (partial remote work not guaranteed to continue). Occasionally may travel to Field and Manufacturing locations - up to 25%.

This position at times will be required to work outside in all weather conditions in a hands-on environment.

Walk, stand, sit, use hands to operate controls and work with tools, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk and hear.
