POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Speech/Language Pathologist assists in developing speech and language skills to facilitate the personal, social, and intellectual development of students. In order to respond to the individual needs and abilities of students, the Speech/Language Pathologist must work closely with the staff and administration of the cooperative and school district.
PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS
  • Current Speech-Language Pathology Licensure in Michigan with CCC's
  • Working knowledge of the principles, practices and ethical standards of Speech and Language Pathologists, as well as relevant state and federal laws, rules and regulations
  • Ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with students, staff, and parents
  • Ability to balance multiple demands and prioritize activities to meet deadlines
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
  • The Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP) provides direct therapy and consultation services to students identified with disabilities in articulation, receptive and expressive language, fluency, and/or voice disorders
  • The SLP conducts special education evaluations with other team members to identify eligible students
  • Conducts screenings, evaluations and writes reports for students referred for special education to assist in determining eligibility for special education
  • Leads team in the creation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) with measurable goals and facilitates these IEP meetings
  • Facilitates process for obtaining and implementing use of assistive technology (AAC) devices, and creates materials for students' devices
  • Delivers direct and consultative school speech and language therapy as specified in students' IEPs
  • Completes special education documentation regarding students' therapy, as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations
  • This includes daily progress notes, progress reports and monthly Medicaid billing
  • Assists school staff in developing and implementing accommodations to allow students with speech and language disabilities to be successful within the school setting
  • Supports districts' MTSS and trauma-informed practices
  • Attends building and department team meetings to discuss individual students, group needs, etc.
  • Attend and facilitate professional development

  • Prolonged periods standing and walking throughout school and classroom.
  • Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds at a time.
  • Must be able to assist students who have physical difficulties.
  • Occasional bending, kneeling, sitting, standing, and climbing stairs.
  • Prolonged periods sitting and working on the computer to complete necessary paperwork.

COMPENSATION
Salary is based on the GPEA CBA, which may or may not recognize previous professional teaching experience. GPEA Members are also eligible for a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including health/dental/vision/life and long-term disability insurance.
