Certs BLS
Required testing All travelers must take & pass a cardiac rhythm exam. They feel that an RN with ACLS should easily be able to pass this
Ratios Mainly 1:5-6 for both days & nights on most units (once or twice a month could have 7 patients toward the end of the shift). Depends on acuity of patients.
EMR EPIC (See info regarding Epic in the General Info Tab)
Charge Nurse Yes - Every unit has a charge nurse. Day charge does not take patients, Night charge does take patients
Nurse Aides Yes - all units use CNAs
Weekend Requirement Every-other-weekend. Sat/Sun for both Days/Nights
Holidays Work in the holiday rotation schedule with perm staff
Scrub Color Royal Blue
Tele Phillips - Most units have monitor techs but RN's must be able to read & interpret strips
RT 24/7 CPAP & BiPap only - RT manages
Vents Some units could have BiPAP or CPAP - RT Manages
RT 24/7 RT is in-house 24/7 but RN's do aerosols for non-vented patients as well as EKGs
IV Team IV Team available house-wide until 10 pm M-F & until 3:30 pm on the weekends
Pharmacy 24/7 In-house pharmacy 24/7 & use Accudose
Shifts 12 hour shifts 7a - 7p; 7p - 7a
Floor specific orientation 1-2 Shifts with a preceptor
Common diagnosis / Types of patients CHF, Cardiac cath, CP, pneumonia, chronic renal disease, COPD, Ortho, & Oncology (perm staff will administer chemo)
Additional Notes Manager is open to Traveler requests to work primarily on 6N if requested. She will make every effort to block schedule if requested. Very traveler friendly. Update as of 5/14/2021: If floating to Critical Care, will be assigned med/surg or stepdown type patients.
