The School Social worker will be responsible for clinical services and general case management within the context of a treatment team for youth and families served by The Children’s Center of Hamden. The School Social Worker will provide leadership and guidance related to clinical interventions and services to remove non-academic barriers to learning in the school setting.

In this position, the School Social Worker will maintain a case load and provide clinical support and crisis intervention. The School Social Worker will be the liaison with School Districts, outside agencies and personnel, DCF, hospitals, insurance/managed care, the legal system, private consultants, etc.

The School Social Worker will be accountable to the Vice President of Education or designee of the Whitney Hall School. The School Social Worker is part of a multidisciplinary team and is responsible for providing information, strategies, and a clinical perspective, along with promoting teamwork in the treatment of youth.

Monday - Friday - 7:45 AM to 3:45 PM

Education and Experience

Masters in Social Work with Connecticut (SDE) Certification as a School Social Worker (Endorsement #071), required.

A license in Clinical Social Work is preferred. Bilingual preferred.

Working knowledge of diagnostics, child development, mental health, substance abuse.

Familiarity or previous experience with trauma informed practices. Ability to engage clients in a therapeutic relationship.

Ability to design and implement therapeutic interventions to promote positive change.

Ability to work with adolescents and their families.

Ability to work well independently within a treatment team philosophy. Good verbal and written communication skills.
