Until Filled TITLE: SOCIAL WORKER
Job Focus: To utilize extensive knowledge of social institutions and agencies, understanding of human growth and behavior, skills in establishing relationships and sharing professional competencies with others in order to help pupils overcome problems of a social/emotional nature which may interfere with their normal progress in school.
Line of Supervision: Responsible to and evaluated by building Principal
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Works with individual pupils toward the alleviation or correction of personal, social, or emotional maladjustment's which interfere with learning, attendance, or effective participation in the school.
2. Help parents understand their role in helping their child succeed in school.
3. Assist parents in locating referral resources necessary for their child's welfare.
4. Collaborates as needed with teachers, principals, and other school personnel to develop plans that modify the behavior of disruptive students.
5. Cooperates with agencies and professional individuals in the community for the purpose of linking community resources with mutually known families
6. Consults with teachers and others to help them understand the meaning of their students behaviors.
7. Participates in school activities to promote the relationship of the school to the broader community.
8. Participates, as appropriate in community activities with other school and community personnel to determine the need for and development of additional community resources.
9. Prepares reports as needed for Medicare reimbursement of at-risk and special education students.
10. Schedules, organizes and conducts IEP, MDC, and other staffing as necessary.
11. Assumes responsibilities of case management activities to include: *Coordinates appropriate referrals. *Communicates with staff about follow up to staffing.
12. Participates at staff meetings in developing behavior management plans and functional analysis of behavior.
13. Performs such other duties as assigned by the Principal, Coordinator of Special Education, or Superintendent of Schools.
14. Guards the confidentiality of all information placed in charge of their office.
Breach of this trust shall be grounds for dismissal.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Qualify for a valid certificate (type 73) as a School Social Worker issued by the Illinois State Board of Education.
2. Holds an earned Masters Degree from an accredited college or university.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 180 days per year.
