Job Description:
- Support/manage safety and occupational health programs
- Support/participate in program compliance audits by outside organizations
- Prepare or review standard operating procedures
- Serve as a key safety reviewer for process manufacturing start-up and approval
- Perform walkthroughs and safety and health inspections of manufacturing areas, storage facilities, test ranges, laboratories, and administrative spaces; document any recommendations
- Perform follow-up inspections to close out recommendations, specifically on hazard abatement to close out deficiencies in accordance with 29 CFR 1960
- Track the status of open actions using databases or spreadsheets
- Interact with process owners and design teams
- Participate in hazard analyses and process start-up reviews
- Review, update, and present training on safety and occupational health topics
- Support mishap and incident investigations
- Maintain compliance with Federal, Navy, and local policies
- Safety Specialists should have a minimum of 2 years of safety and occupational health experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health and Safety, or related engineering or science field is preferred, but equivalent work experience will be considered in lieu of a degree
- Strong understanding of 29 CFR 1910
- Engineers should have experience in reviewing technical data packages and engineering drawings; conducting design reviews with respect to ADA, NFPA, ASHRAE, and/or ANSI compliance; and providing input for hazard identification and mitigation
- A General Industry Certification (e.g., Certified Industrial Hygienist, Certified Safety Professional, Associate Safety Professional) is preferred but not required
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- A minimum of 2 years of experience with explosives safety is preferred but not required
- Must currently hold or be able to obtain a Department of Defense Secret-level security clearance; Must be a U.S. citizen as this position is not eligible for Limited Access Authorizations
