Commodity Buyer

We are seeking a Commodity Buyer to join a well-established producer and distributor of specialty products in Detroit, MI. This role focuses on the procurement of specific commodities, ensuring cost-effective and reliable sourcing while managing supplier relationships and market dynamics.

Key Responsibilities:

• Strategic Sourcing: Conduct research to identify suppliers and develop cost-saving strategies for key commodities.
• Supplier Relationship Management: Maintain and build relationships with suppliers, addressing quality concerns and performance issues.
• Negotiation: Negotiate pricing and terms to achieve cost savings and secure favorable agreements.
• Cost Optimization: Monitor market trends and commodity prices to identify cost-saving opportunities.
• Risk Management: Identify and mitigate potential risks in the commodity supply chain.
• Contract Management: Assist in drafting and managing supplier contracts, ensuring compliance.
• Quality Assurance: Work with quality control teams to ensure supplier compliance with standards.

Qualifications and Skills:

• 2-5 years of experience in procurement or as a Commodity Buyer
• Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills
• Familiarity with supply chain dynamics and commodity markets
• Excellent communication and organizational skills

Education and Experience:

• Bachelors degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field
• Prior experience in procurement or commodity buying is preferred

Work Environment:

• Fast-paced environment with occasional travel to meet suppliers or attend events
