Senior Electrical Engineer

The primary responsibility of the Senior Electrical Engineer is to work in cooperation with clients directly in designing electrical systems. This role includes the design, development, improvement, and implementation of industrial electrical systems as well as providing programming support to these systems. This role requires a high level of communication and coordination with team members as well as clients. The Senior Electrical Engineer is expected to assist in research and help develop solutions for clients. This role also involves extended periods of time on startups with clients as part of completing projects.

  • Provide expertise in various aspects of electrical design and programming support as well as other functions as required.
  • Research and analyze client requests associated with electrical systems.
  • Responsible for scope definition, cost estimation, and preparation of project documentation for stage gate approvals.
  • Responsible for instrument design, specification, and installation coordination with clients.
  • Design concepts, drawings, equipment specifications, and control concepts for industrial electrical systems including motor control centers and variable frequency drives.
  • Participate in planning, cost development, and scheduling for projects.
  • Coordinate with various engineering groups including controls and mechanical fields to assist in designing systems for projects.
  • Communicate with clients, vendors, and relevant stakeholders on projects.
  • Perform problem-solving and repair of electrical systems in the field.
  • Monitor, modify, and update existing electrical systems and programming including HMI, PLC, and DCS programs.
  • Control P&ID markups and final revisions, drawing checkouts, and supply the most current engineering standards for clients.
  • Travel to provide on-site support during start-up phases of projects as well as follow-up support as needed.
  • Generate analyses, specifications, cost estimates, and estimated construction schedules for projects.
  • Prepare and present technical information to peers, teams, and clients.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in electrical engineering.
  • PE license or FE certified working towards PE license.
  • 10-15 years' experience with industrial controls/electrical systems.
  • Experience processing electrical applications in the Food & Beverage and Chemical industrial facilities.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and MicroStation software packages.
  • Able to take on the lead electrical role on projects and be solely responsible for completing project tasks, on time, on budget, and within the expected quality.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and program industrial electrical systems using basic tools.
  • Knowledgeable of Arc-Flash/Arc-Blast safety training.
  • Able to program industrial control systems.
  • Understanding of the National Electric Code.
  • Knowledge of PLC and DCS programming systems as well as HMI design.
  • Able to read and understand electrical schematics and detailed scope of work documents, including medium and low voltage systems, 1-lines, panel schedules, detailed instrumentation schematics, etc.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and maintain quality service while under pressure.
  • Able to travel to job sites to perform electrical checkouts of designed systems.
  • High level of conscientiousness and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work alone or within groups as necessary.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills (e.g. Being able to explain technical issues to clients using common language.)
  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, and Power Point.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat.
  • Maintains safety skills such as: SIS, PHAs, and PSSRs.
  • Ability and willingness to travel.
