WHAT TO EXPECT

Located in our Rochester Hills office, as a Senior Development Engineer , you will provide product development engineering services to develop electric water pumps (EWP) responsible for directing design, development, testing, and providing customer support.

  • You'll be working with suppliers and the development team to bring EWP from concept to production.
  • You will manage product development projects related to EWP's following the Gates product development process.
  • This position is vital to Gates because you will use your working knowledge to reduce emissions across diverse applications and industries!
  • Your fit in the organization is reporting to the Product Engineering Manager - Electric Water Pumps.

Key responsibilities:

  • Participating in weekly department meetings and reporting on product development and open issues. Highlighting key development issues and manage plan to resolve these issues
  • Responsible for hydraulic pump design and performance to meet customer requirements
  • Working closely together with engineering team to define products that will meet the customer's needs. Establishing concept validation requirements with simulation and testing that verify product performance
  • Working with the Application and Development Engineer to define the bill of material and component specifications
  • Managing supplier open issues with a weekly meeting
  • Defining and managing product design for the electrical water pump and electric motors and related components
  • Working with teammates to maintain product DFMEA
  • Defining EWP design based on customer requirements
  • Guiding designers to create component and assembly drawings with GD&T
  • Creating bill of materials (BOM) for EWP's
  • Managing product validation
  • Developing strong engineering relationships with strategic suppliers

ABOUT YOU

  • Mechanical Engineering degree from an ABET-accredited university
  • A minimum of 5 years of electric motor design and automotive industry experience in product design, development, testing, and industrialization
  • Must have a working understanding of electric motor and pump characteristics and development and the automotive industry practices
  • Strong background defining pump architecture and fluid pumps
  • Travel: up to 10% (calling on suppliers, OEM engineers, prospects, or working with customer personnel)
  • Excited to work in the office with great teammates
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship.
