Description

GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK:

Under general direction of the designated supervisor, monitors the use of aquatic facilities and equipment to ensure visitor and participant safety within the facility and compliance with applicable safety policies and practices. Rescues distressed persons, using rescue techniques and equipment; contacts emergency medical personnel in case of serious injury; provides emergency care and treatment as required.

The position requires movement about the facility, requiring the exertion of up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally. Work requires reaching, fingering, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of machines, and determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work; on rare occasion, may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. Schedule varies and will include early morning, nights, and weekends to meet facility needs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:

  1. Maintains constant surveillance of patrons; acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of an emergency;
  2. Adheres and enforces rules in all pools;
  3. Performs various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility;
  4. Prepares and maintains appropriate activity reports;
  5. Performs assorted job-related duties as assigned by the designated supervisor;
  6. Maintains skills by performing mandatory monthly fitness swims or training exercises;
  7. Attends scheduled in-service trainings;
  8. May perform other duties as assigned.


Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

General knowledge of aquatics, water safety rules, first aid practices and techniques; ability to enforce rules in a tactful and effective manner; ability to work as part of a team; ability to remain calm under pressure/stress/in emergency situations; ability to always present a professional appearance and attitude.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Must be at least 15 years of age. Must possess current American Red Cross Lifeguard/First Aid certification; current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer; current Waterpark Certification (or the ability to obtain within 2 weeks of hire).

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must possess satisfactory results of a criminal history background check. CPR and First Aid certifications required.
