The role you’ll contribute:

The Dosimetrist serves as a member of the radiation oncology team with knowledge of the overall characteristics and clinical relevance of the radiation oncology treatment machines and equipment. Has the education and expertise to generate radiation dose distributions and dose calculations in collaboration with the radiation oncologist. The medical dosimetrist is responsible for designing a radiation dose distribution and dose calculation to determine a treatment field technique that will deliver the physician prescribed radiation dose to a defined tumor volume. The dosimetrist must consider dose limiting structures near the tumor so as not to harm the surrounding normal/healthy tissue and organs adjacent to or in the path of the tumor. Designing the treatment plan for the cancer patient is a key responsibility of the dosimetrist. In order to complete these treatment plans, the dosimetrist must have thorough knowledge in the areas of cancer treatment, 2D/3D external beam radiation therapy, stereotactic radiosurgery, stereotactic body radiotherapy, intensity modulated radiation therapy, cone beam planning and interstitial/intracavitary brachytherapy.

The value you’ll bring to the team:

  • Ability to interpret criteria and develop patient treatment plans as defined by relevant RTOG, NCCN, CALGB and/or MD Anderson treatment protocols

  • Knowledge of 3D CT anatomy with ability to contour clearly discernable critical normal structures with extreme accuracy.

  • Efficiently design a patient radiation treatment plan by means of a 3D treatment planning computer utilizing optimal beam geometry that delivers radiation to the tumor site while sparing critical normal structures.
