Mechanical Engineering Director
Fairwinds is looking for innovators who can successfully execute across multiple disciplines as part of a small business environment. An ideal candidate would be an out of the box thinker, develop innovative solutions, and provide expertise in an IP connected environment across RF Tactical & Naval Military Solutions to strategic border protection Applications. This would include experience in communications systems & test engineering including reflector based and phased array SATCOM antenna systems. Work under the Chief Technology & Strategy Office to define Mechanical Engineering Design Investments and develop multiple mechanical and thermal solutions for customers across the communications & radar spectrums. Ability to design flexible adapter and mechanical assembly solutions for tactical applications. Looking for someone that has the ability to interact with both customers & engineering design teams to identify mechanical & thermal designs for new cutting-edge technologies and identify current issues and correct those to the customers satisfaction.

Type: Hybrid up to 40 hours a week in the office as needed.
Required Skills:
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Materials Engineering.
- 5 years’ experience designing mechanical mounts for Naval or Tactical Military platforms for mounting communications systems.
- 5 years’ experience with designing mechanical packaging solutions for rapid prototyping and quick reaction communications systems.
- Understanding of materials science and thermal management engineering.
- Understanding of Radar Cross Section material concepts for communication/radar systems.
- Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in mechanical design and development.
- Ability to not shy away from technical challenges and an approach of how it can be done, not how it can't be done.
- Experience with SATCOM, Terrestrial Wireless/Radio Systems.
- Experience with MATLAB, Simulink, & Solidworks.
- Experience working with contract manufacturing, etc.
- Experience writing Technical White Papers
- Ability to work independently and up to 75% remote.
- Ability to Travel up to 30% of the time.
- Ability to brief non-technical Senior Leadership with experience briefing on highly technical matters.
- US Citizen
- Active Secret or higher DoD Security Clearance
Additional Experience in these areas is a plus:
- Master of Mechanical or Material Science Engineering – Or equivalent
- 10 years’ experience in development of mechanical designs for Mobile SATCOM Integrated Radome Antenna Systems.
- 5 years’ experience developing mechanical designs for Electronically steered Phased Array antenna systems.
- Experience with phased arrays, metamaterials, and/or patch antenna modelling, design, fab, and test in a research and development setting
- Proficiency with a variety of popular analysis tools such as ADS, Microwave Office, HFSS, Feko, CST, and/or GRASP
- A background in scientific programming using languages such as C, C++, Fortran, Python, Rust, or Julia

This is a full time, exempt position.
