ECU Health Bertie Hospital is a state-of-the-art, 6-bed critical access hospital in Windsor. It is closely affiliated with ECU Health Medical Center and the telemedicine resources of The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. The hospital offers high quality surgical, emergency and diagnostic services, as well as specialty and primary care clinics.
Position Summary
The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) performs clinical laboratory tests by standard operating policies and procedures. Must understands method principle, perform quality control & calibrations, perform preventive maintenance, and analyze results as to accuracy, acceptability and critical limits.
As a MLT, you will:
  • Prepare patient specimens as required for laboratory testing. Perform laboratory tests specific to department
  • Monitor test results to assure test quality and validity
  • Communicate test results in a timely manner. Enter and retrieve data from laboratory computer systems
  • Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and environment
  • Demonstrate appropriate, caring behavior in the workplace, treating patients, their families, visitors and staff with respect and dignity
  • Works alternate shifts as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including, but not limited to, phlebotomy
Minimum Requirements
  • Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or currently enrolled in an accredited Clinical Laboratory Science Program (BS) and have completed the specific laboratory rotation (e.g. Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, and Transfusion Services)
  • Equivalent laboratory training and/or work experience with the US military (2 years) will meet the education requirement
Preferred:
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by ASCP or other nationally recognized certifying agency

  • This is a PRN, As Needed position
  • Shift Varies (may be required to work days, evenings, nights, weekends)
