Job Summary:
Provide high quality health care to Kaiser Permanente members in a cost-effective manner and in accordance with accepted professional practice standards.
Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provide high quality health care through directly assessing, diagnosing, and treating all patients who present to the Emergency Room with mental health needs and co-occurring chemical dependency disorders (may include depression, anxiety, marital conflicts, etc., in individuals, couples, families).
  • To rapidly, accurately, and concisely document face to face assessments and care in the patients permanent record in accordance with accepted medical/legal standards. Provide all care in accordance with accepted practice standards and hospital protocols.
  • Provide case management through appropriate triaging and referrals, reporting to other providers, telephone contact with patients and their families, and contact with outside agencies.
  • Participate effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage crisis interventions for at risk patients to assure patient and community safety
  • Perform other duties as requested.
Basic Qualifications: Experience
  • Two (2) years of clinical experience.
Education
  • Masters level degree or higher required (M.S.W., M.S., M.A., M.Ed.)
License, Certification, Registration
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (Oregon) required at hire OR Psychologist License (Oregon) required at hire OR Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (Oregon) required at hire OR Professional Counselor License (Oregon) required at hire
  • National Provider Identifier required at hire
Additional Requirements:
  • Thorough knowledge of suicide risk assessment, safety planning and therapeutic crisis intervention
  • Thorough knowledge of psychosocial diagnostic categories and treatment approaches including evidence-based treatment modalities, suicide assessment, and therapeutic crisis intervention
  • Working knowledge of legal requirements for reporting abuse and homicidal threats
  • Strong interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills
  • Process and communicate in a manner that is sensitive and appropriate to the cultural, linguistic and psychological needs of patients, families and other healthcare team members
  • Identify and respond to changes in policies, regulations, and procedures which can impact the patient
  • Ability to use electronic medical record
  • Ability to assess, diagnose and treat child and adult mental health patients
  • Ability to rapidly establish rapport with a diverse population of patients presenting with a wide range of psychiatric, social and emotional problems
  • Assess for co-occurring mental health and chemical dependency disorders
  • Maintaining concentration and staying task-focused, despite frequent interruptions, noise and distractions of a busy emergency department and team room.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage immediate competing demands in highly stimulating work environment.
  • Rapidly, accurately, and concisely document face-to-face assessment and care in patients permanent record in accordance with accepted medical/legal standards.
  • Working knowledge of clinical indicators, federal and state legal requirements, and hospital regulatory standards for safe, ethical, and effective practices for secluding and restraining patients. Participate effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Managing personal health and preventing professional burnout in face of emotional intensity of working with highest acuity psychiatric patients and occasional exposure to violent and aggressive patients or completed patient suicide.
  • Obtain core hospital privileges in mental health.
  • Ability to work in varying locations according to operational needs.
  • Participate, and lead, physical restraint codes.
  • Ability to walk quickly from team room to distant ED patient areas, sometimes multiple times per hour.
  • Knowledge of Co-occurring mental health and chemical dependency disorders
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Five (5) years of clinical experience
  • Two (2) years of emergency department and/or equivalent crisis mental health clinical experience within the last five (5) years
  • Familiarity with trauma informed care
  • Preference for additional Credentials Washington State
  • Working knowledge of relevant outcome measures
  • Familiarity with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy
  • Thorough and working knowledge of ethical guidelines and behaviors for therapists
  • Proficient electronic mail communication skills
  • Proficient computer skills in windows applications
