About The Job: Sandy Spring Bank is currently recruiting for a Portfolio Manager Team Leader. The successful candidate has responsibility for coaching and managing a team of Portfolio Managers (PMs) ensuring a high level of underwriting quality in order to provide decision makers with critical information necessary for making efficient credit decisions on new credit requests and effective identification of risk within the existing portfolio. MAJOR JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES

: PORTFOLIO MANAGEMENT (40%) Ensures acceptable credit quality in the region’s portfolio by complying with the Bank’s credit policy. Demonstrates understanding of the Bank’s loan rating system and ensures that loans underwritten in the region are properly rated. Participates as appropriate in Deal Discussion for SLC level credits and/or for credits below the SLC level threshold as needed. Collaborates with PMs, Relationship Managers (RMs) and Commercial Lending Services Coordinator – Team Lead to ensure that delinquencies, upcoming maturities, and financial statement exceptions are kept within acceptable limits. Maintains Guideline/ Policy exceptions for their respective region’s portfolio within desired limits. Works in collaboration with the SCO to ensure that Portfolio Reviews for respective region are accurate and completed on a timely basis. In addition, assists team members in identifying problem assets and developing an action plan for each. Possesses a good understanding of Watchlist Credits in respective region and as needed and collaborates with Special Assets Group on an as needed basis. UNDERWRITING (35%) Utilizes strong underwriting acumen for a wide variety of credit requests. Review financial source documents and deal structure for collaboration with SCO, RM and PM as needed on various credit requests. Underwrite credits to include new requests, renewals, complex loan opportunities that may arise, and assigned watchlist reports. Evaluates and recommends loan requests for further approval to Market Leader, Senior Credit Officer and Senior Loan Committee. Within individual lending authority, approves loans as appropriate. Management & Leadership - (25%) Provides guidance and leadership to team of PMs. Complies with all aspects of performance management to include establishing annual goals and performance objectives for each team member and conducting regular documented performance reviews (1:1s) and annual, documented performance appraisals. In addition, the PMTL will be responsible for the team’s professional development and through ongoing performance evaluations, identify areas of professional growth and in response, relevant training opportunities. Collaborates with the Portfolio Group Manager regarding resource management within the region as needed as well as to ensure equitable workflow among the PM team members. Addresses personnel issues promptly and consistently. Responsible for underwriting quality of credit packages, Portfolio Reviews, and Covenant Reviews prepared by the PM team. Ensures that PMs are following the CX 360 process for updating credits through the Underwriting and Approval stages. Ability to lead a team through a fast paced/high volume environment with the ability to resolve challenges, communicate clearly and foster a positive environment with a focus on professional development as well as accountability. Other duties as may be assigned.

Required Skills

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 1. Position requires a seasoned professional with a high level of experience underwriting complex C&I loans in a variety of industries and with a demonstrated understanding of various financial source documents. Thorough C&I underwriting is a focus in this position, experience underwriting commercial real estate (CRE) loans as well as Government Contracting credit opportunities as needed is a plus. In addition, broad experience in commercial banking combined with a thorough understanding of commercial banking concepts and practices is a requirement of this position. 2. Ability to adapt to change and lead team through evolving situations requiring analysis, interpretation and time sensitive resolution. Possesses strong challenge management skills. 3. Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills are required to present pending credit packages. Provide coaching and guidance to team members and maintain positive rapport. 4. Ability to maximize the potential of team members and achieve excellence through clear communication of goals and accountability. 5. Provide coaching and guidance to team member and maintain positive rapport. SPECIFIC PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work requires reasonable mobility in and around the work area. Ability to use standard computer and phone systems is required WORKING CONDITIONS: Normal office environment where there is almost no discomfort due to temperature, dust, noise, or other disagreeable elements. Work includes little or no potential exposure to hazardous conditions. Must be able to travel to remote company and/or client locations.
