POSITION TITLE: Respiratory Therapist
DEPARTMENT: Cardiopulmonary Services
REPORTS TO: Cardiopulmonary Services Director
BASIC FUNCTION: Works as a member of a team of physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals to provide patient care. Sets up and operates a variety of devices such as mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems and aerosol generators. Follows specified parameters of treatment when providing patient care and operating devices/equipment. Reads prescriptions, measures arterial blood gases and reviews patient information to assess patient condition. Determines requirements for treatment such as type, method and duration of therapy, precautions to be taken and appropriate medications and dosages. These determinations are to be compatible with physicians' orders. Monitors patient physiological responses to therapy such as vital signs, arterial blood gases and blood chemistry changes. Consults with physician if adverse reactions occur. Provides emergency respiratory care as needed including artificial respiration, external cardiac massage and assistance with cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Conducts electrocardiograms. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks and other duties as assigned .
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Must be a graduate of an approved course of respiratory care. Certified Respiratory Therapists and Registered Respiratory Therapists may be considered. Must have current licensure with the State of Colorado. Must have current BLS certification and must maintain current status throughout employment. ACLS and PALS certifications must be obtained within six months of employment and maintained throughout employment.
Experience: Minimum of two years' experience as a practicing Respiratory Therapist preferred.
SALARY INFORMATION :
  • $26.65-$40.00 Dependent on experience may vary outside this range
  • 10% differential in addition to base rate salary
  • Additional $2.00 - $4.00 an hour for additional weekend and night shifts
  • APPLICATION WINDOW: Minimum of three days, and until it is filled
