Overview
The Respiratory Care Practitioner is responsible for the planning, executing and evaluating the total Respiratory Care of assigned patients. The Respiratory Care Practitioner utilizes current evidenced based Respiratory Care Practice to care for each patient based on the physiological, psychosocial and cultural diversity. Works under the direction of the leadership team to provided respiratory services associated with and in accordance with standards of excellence established by Riverside Health System and facility goals and strategic plans. Responsible for assuring safe practices as referenced in the National Patient Safety Goals, and supports best practices as recommended by the American Association of Respiratory Care.
What you will do

  • Responsible for completing initial assessment for patient's referred to pulmonary rehabilitation. Is able to accurately assess the physical and psychosocial condition of a patient with each visit based on the initial assessment and disease process. Will adhere to AACVPR guidelines. The Medical Tank Bank is monitored and maintained.
  • Appropriately completes individualized treatment plans, and documents absences with an accurate reason for all pulmonary rehabilitation patients. Initial pulmonary rehabilitation assessments; including six minute walk test, individualized treatment plans, and supervised exercised sessions are charted.
  • Participates and assists in meetings, projects and in-services relative to improvement of RHS Respiratory Care Services.
  • Utilizes proper infection control techniques in performance of duties and in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Provides the patients with a complete individualized treatment plan and patient instruction for all equipment and procedures used during class and testing. Provides patients with visual, audio, and pamphlet education for medication and disease processes.
Qualifications
Education
  • Associates Degree, Respiratory Therapy or Related Field (Required)
  • Bachelors Degree, Respiratory Therapy or Related Field (Preferred)
Experience
  • 1 year Respiratory Therapist experience (Preferred)
Licenses and Certifications
  • Licensed Respiratory Therapist (RT) - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) RCP license with the Virginia Department of Health Professions Upon Hire(Required) and
  • Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) - The National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) Upon Hire(Required) or
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - The National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) Upon Hire(Required) and
  • CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) Upon Hire(Required)
  • Pulmonary Rehabilitation Certificate - AARC within 1-1/2 Yrs (Required)
