Our pediatric population can range from a few weeks old through teenagers. Most of our pediatric patients are admitted with diagnoses of viral respiratory illnesses or dehydration with an age range of 6 months through 4 years. The treatment for most of these kiddos includes IV fluids, antibiotics, oxygen, and nebulizer treatments- if they require much beyond that, we transfer them to a children's hospital in Denver. All of our pediatric medications are double checked by a second nurse before administration to add that second layer of safety. We generally try to keep our pediatric patients with our core staff as much as we can, but I can't guarantee that. For Due to our facility size, we also have the requirement in place as part of our code team. Our code team includes floor nurses, ER nurses, and the ER provider who respond to any department within the hospital- each staff member assigned to the code team for the shift is assigned a specific role.
