**POSITION TITLE:** Security Officer

**POSITION SUMMARY:**

Provide security for patients, employees, visitors, and hospital property. Willing to work day, night, graveyard shifts, weekends and holidays. The security department exists to provide a secure and safe environment that allows patients, staff and visitors to deliver or receive quality care and services. The really important outcome of this department is protecting patients, visitors, and staff from reasonable fear of harm. That helps Sky Lakes Medical Center succeed by providing an atmosphere that is conductive to rest and recovery to persons who make our job possible - our customers.

**ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:**

* Perform frequent inspections tours (patrols) of the facility to watch for and guard against signs of trespassing, loitering, theft, property damage, fire, vandalism, breaches of security, accidents and other hazardous conditions which threatens the safety and well-being of hospital staff, patients, visitors and serves as first line defense/response to such incidents.

* Renders timely emergency assistance to requesting parties in incidents such as patient restraint, assault, theft, fire, etc., to the best of his/her ability.

* Maintain knowledge of the Safety & Security Procedures as well as the Sky Lakes Safety and Disaster Policies.

* Required to be thoroughly cognizant of the Security Officers involvement in the Hospital Internal and External Disaster Plans.

* Operate all hospital vehicles in a safe manner and patrol all parking areas enforcing compliance with parking procedures as detailed in the Sky Lakes Medical Center policies.

* Participate in investigations; maintain records, prepare incident and situation reports and other documents pertinent to security activities.

* Consult with and keep supervisor informed of activities, needs, and problems.

* Care for and maintain department supplies and equipment as assigned by the supervisor. Request supplies and equipment as needed or inform supervisor.

* Attend no less than 80% of monthly staff meetings as required and all scheduled in-services.

* Demonstrates competence in relation to the defined mission, vision, values, and strategic plan of the organization. This will be apparent by ongoing completion of any or all of the following: proficiency testing, skill demonstration, practice of core standards for service excellence, and documentation review.

**MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS:**

**Minimum Requirements**

**QUALIFICATIONS:**

**REQUIRED:**

Possession of valid Oregon drivers license; Excellent driving record and ability to be insured by the hospitals auto insurance policy; Ability to work without supervision and interpret/apply Policy and Procedures; Strong oral/written communication; Strong interpersonal skills including sensitivity to multi-cultural issues; and good physical condition.

**PREFERRED:**

One (1) year of continuous recent security/law enforcement experience (civilian/military).

**NON-REG CERT:**

BLS certification required by end of month from 60 days of hire and maintained; Advanced Avade Training(Code Gray) certification required by end of month from 90 days of hire and maintained; Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) certification required by end of month from six (6) months of hire and maintained.

**TYPICAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:**

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 200 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust to focus. Employee will make extreme decisions within short time frames. Employee will be exposed to bio-hazardous environments.

**PAY RANGE: $13.80 - $20.70**
