Description

Under the supervision of the Lead Child Care Teacher, the Preschool Assistant Teacher assists the classroom teacher in setting up and implementing daily curriculum which promotes social, cultural, educational, physical and emotional growth. Additionally, the Assistant Teacher performs housekeeping chores as necessary and provides a quality experience to children that focuses on the YMCA values.

Essential Functions :

  • Assists classroom teacher in implementing daily lesson/activity plans to support a developmentally appropriate curriculum.
  • Has knowledge of and maintains NAEYC and DEEC standards.
  • Greets parents and children and interacts with the children. Is aware of children's safety at all times.
  • Makes and records observations of children.
  • Maintains classroom and equipment.
  • Change and feed children.
  • Supervise outdoor play, handwashing, toileting.
  • Is flexible to schedule changes.
  • Attends and participates in family nights, staff meetings, staff training, and YMCA special events.
  • May be required to work in other classrooms, where appropriately certified, based on staffing needs; at the discretion of the Supervising Lead Teacher and/or center director
  • Additional duties as required and assigned by a supervisor to support the overall mission of the YMCA and to ensure the success of the Child Care Department.
Qualifications:
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Must meet the education and experience qualifications established by the DEEC, NAEYC, and QRIS or are willing to work towards established qualifications.
  • Must obtain, and keep current, certification in CPR, First Aid and Child Abuse Prevention.
  • Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.

Physical demands: Ability to participate in children's activities and evacuation drills, move about the classroom and playground, and lift children.

Must present evidence of a physical examination and certification of good health every two years; as well as evidence of a negative Mantoux test, and immunity from measles, mumps, and rubella.

Schedule: Shifts vary during the day but typically Monday through Friday, 20 hours per week.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $17.00 per hour. Plus, access to YMCA facilities for all YMCA employees, Employee Assistance Program, and Sick Leave
