We are seeking cooperative education positions for both spring (Jan-July) and fall (July-Dec) for the Grain Processing Business, where we leverage cutting-edge enzyme and yeast technology to develop sustainable solutions for the emerging bio-based economy. Our enzyme and yeast products are critical biocatalysts in our customers' processes, enabling them to create renewable biofuel, feed, and food products. As a part of our Application Development team, this role will work across functions to develop and support products and processes.

Application Development Intern (Research)

Applied Innovation Center in Cedar Rapids, IA, USA

  • Coops will manage independent projects and support ongoing product development and support efforts. Work will be focused on the use of enzymes and/or yeast to generate biofuels and food ingredients.
  • Day-to-day duties will include the design, execution, and interpretation of experiments to evaluate and optimize enzyme and yeast performance at lab- and/or pilot-scales.
  • Hands-on laboratory work to execute, analyze, report and present experimental plans and results as well as standard assays
  • Coops will work at IFF's Applied Innovation Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The Center shares a location with Business leadership and an enzyme and yeast production facility. Cedar Rapids is part of Iowa's Creative Corridor and is close to Iowa City and the University of Iowa.

Qualifications:

  • Pursuing Bachelor's degree in: Chemical Engineering or Bioprocess Engineering, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, or a related field
  • Academic research or industrial internship/co-op experience
  • Experience with biochemical assays and analytical techniques including HPLC
  • Understanding of enzyme kinetics and/or fermentation fundamentals
  • Desire to work in a multidisciplinary team and capability to work independently
  • Self-starter with good organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail
