Position Information Posting Number 442098 Position Title Campus Safety Inspector FTE 1.0 Position Type Staff Department Risk Management Position Summary Information Job Summary/Basic Function About This Role: Reporting to the Director of Deputy Chief of Operations and Manager of Campus Safety, the Campus Safety Inspector will function as an inspector of life safety equipment, on-campus events, and safety compliance. The Campus Safety Inspector will remediate safety issues, promote a safety culture through training and departmental support, and ensure policies remain in compliance with regulations. The Campus Safety Inspector will coordinate the safety inspection duties of LUPD's Campus Safety Officers. The Campus Safety Inspector will train in other EHS departmental duties, such as insurance claims and responses, laboratory inspections, and driver approval, to provide support when needed. What You'll Do - Position Responsibilities: Conduct monthly inspections and ensure non-compliance correction for: AED and first aid kits. Exit lights and emergency lights. Clear egress Fire extinguishers Conduct event and food truck inspections, as needed, to confirm proper insurance and permits. Assist with annual fire drills. Assist with annual campus elevator inspections. Maintain EHS departmental calendar(s) of events, monitoring for conflicts. Assess and plan remediation of reported safety issues. Develop new and update current health and safety manuals for campus and departments. Develop new and update current standard operating procedures for departments. Promote a culture of safety: Monthly safety meetings with Facilities & Maintenance department. Assist in implementing safety trainings for faculty, staff and students. Lead departmental safety meetings when needed. Other activities determined to promote safety awareness on campus. Training Building Coordinators to perform inspections and report concerns in Campus Opt. Create building emergency evacuation maps and FE/ AED location maps. Maintain EHS & RM asset inventories. Coordinate inspection duties with LUPD Campus Safety Officers. If needed, assist with insurance claims, responses or audits, laboratory or inspections, and approval of drivers. Physical Requirements: Must possess the necessary physical ability to perform the duties (e.g. wear respirator, climb stairs/ladders). Must have sufficient mobility, dexterity, and endurance to perform emergency response and field work. Have the ability to wear personal protective equipment, SCBA , walk up and down stairs, use ladders or enter confined spaces. Job Conditions: The typical schedule is M-F 8:00 am-5 pm, with some afterhours work during inclement weather, emergencies, or other University work curtailments or closures. This position supports the essential function of Campus Operations, and the incumbent may be expected to work during inclement weather and emergency operations. The work environment is varied and includes, but is not limited to, work within laboratories, shops, office spaces, and hazardous waste storage facilities. To see more information about the available benefits, please visit: Insurance - Lamar University ( Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Biological Science, Industrial Hygiene, Public Health or a related field or an associate's degree in occupational safety & health or related field and three (3) years related experience. The ability to read and interpret technical instructional manuals, the ability to prepare clear, accurate and informative reports including investigative findings, conclusions, and recommendations. Familiar with computers and experience in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel software. Ability to operate a golf cart. Have a Texas Driver's License with satisfactory driving history. Job requires a Class B Fire Extinguisher License within 6 months of hire date.
