Description

This position is responsible to help support the City of Merriam's mission by helping to present a safe, sanitary, friendly, and fun patron experience, performing duties in a safe manner, while promoting the City's values.

Essential Functions and Duties
  • Provide a high level of hospitality to patrons of the Community Center to include guest assistance in the pool areas and in general, when needed.
  • Understand and enforce all facility policies.
  • Guard and attend to swimmers at the Community Center, enforcing rules and policies.
  • Administer first aid, CPR, and emergency/safety procedures, as necessary.
  • Perform swimming, diving, and rescue maneuvers.
  • Attend mandatory trainings and in-services.
  • Inspect and evaluate various pool equipment and report signs of wear to the supervisor.
  • Prevent, report, and document all accidents.
  • Perform light maintenance duties such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and emptying trash to ensure a sanitary and clean patron experience.
  • Carry out all duties in a safe manner and in keeping with industry standards.
  • Promote the values of the City at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Must be at least 15 years of age
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification or nationally recognized training program; or ability to obtain
  • CPR for Professional Rescuer Certification, or ability to obtain
  • Current American Red Cross Waterpark Lifeguard Certification; or ability to obtain
  • Must be a strong swimmer with ability to perform rescue functions in water and on land.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to analyze situations and use effective judgement in response.
  • Ability to remain alert for long periods of time.
  • Ability to work in climate controlled indoor pool environment and in the open-air during summer months.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Ability to type with minimal errors.
  • Ability to effectively interact and communicate with all members of the public.
