A Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional healthcare provider who works with critically ill children in a hospital setting. The following is a general job description for a PICU RN:
Responsibilities:
Assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care of critically ill pediatric patients
Administering medications, treatments, and procedures as ordered by the physician
Monitoring vital signs, lab values, and other important indicators of patient condition
Collaborating with a multidisciplinary healthcare team, including physicians, nurse practitioners, respiratory therapists, and others
Communicating effectively with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals
Providing emotional support to patients and families during a critical time
Maintaining patient medical records and updating them as needed
Staying up-to-date on current practices and procedures in PICU nursing
Requirements:
A valid RN license
Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Nursing
Experience in PICU nursing, with a preference for 2 or more years of experience
Ability to work in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment
Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work as part of a team and maintain a positive attitude in challenging situations
