QUALIFICATIONS:
  • RN degree required.
  • Nursing license from the State of Washington required.
  • Current CPR certificate required.
  • Knowledge of current medical issues and regulations relating to school environment.
  • Bilingual/Spanish speaking preferred.
  • Current experience in nursing field preferred.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with students, staff and parents.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Observes students on a regular basis to detect health needs.
  • Instructs teachers on screening for health concerns.
  • Administers medication and treatment prescribed by physicians.
  • Conducts parent conferences and maintains liaison between physicians, parents and staff.
  • Makes recommendations to primary care physician on health needs of individual students.
  • Writes student health care plans based on physician's
  • Delegates the administration of medication and health care to appropriate staff.
  • Trains and supervises staff providing health care support.
  • Maintains up-to-date cumulative health records on all students requiring nursing intervention, reports to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics and other agencies on student health matters.
  • Assumes authority, in the absence of a physician, for the care of a student who has suffered an injury or emergency illness.
  • Administers first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures.
  • Implements board policy on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases.
  • Conducts training for students and staff on handicapping, health and hygiene issues.
  • Assists school personnel in maintaining sanitary standards in schools.
