Shift Details: Full Time | Weekdays, Monday - Friday | 3-12s, 7a-7p

St. Vincent’s Birmingham is our largest hospital in Birmingham with nearly 400 beds. 

Our Clinical Decision Unit is a 20-bed unit where the nurse to patient ratio is 4:1. Diagnoses on CDU vary from chest pain, ERSD, COPD exacerbations, abdominal pain, and other weaknesses. A few procedures that might occur in this unit include heart catheterization, kidney biopsies, swallowing tests, and sending patients to surgery. 

On CDU, you will sharpen your critical thinking skills with the variety of patients seen. In this unit, you are more than just a number. It’s a very heavy team driven atmosphere where there is a huddle every morning and a support system throughout the day.

What You Will Do:

Provide direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization.

  • Implement and monitor patient care plans. Monitor, record and communicate patient condition as appropriate.
  • Serve as a primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care.
  • Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
  • Assess and coordinate patient's discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team.
What You Will Need:

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

  • BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date.
  • Licensed Associate Professional Registered Nurse credentialed from the Alabama Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.

Education:

  • Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing required.
