Description
Medical coding is the transformation of healthcare diagnosis, procedures, medical services, and equipment into universal medical alphanumeric codes. A Coding Specialist is responsible for assigning the correct code to describe the type of service a patient will receive. They ensure the codes are applied correctly during the medical billing process, which includes reviewing the information from documentation and assigning the appropriate codes. The Coding Specialist will conduct coding reviews in random samplings of medical charts to ensure appropriate coding was assigned.
Required certification: Coding certification through AAPC or AHIMA. CPC or CPMA preferred.
