Position Description:

RN position that reports to Warren County Health Department Administrator. Full-time! New grads will be considered if a strong interest in public health nursing field.

Works independently and collaboratively with other staff. This position has a high degree of accountability and autonomy. Great Benefits- 14 Paid Holidays per year in addition to Vacation/Sick paid time off. Low stress, relaxed working environment.

Position Specific Duties:

Primary role as Communicable Disease nurse who performs consultation and case management to prevent and monitor communicable diseases within the community; to investigate public health outbreaks related to communicable diseases; to educate citizens and other health care professionals regarding disease.

Back-Up immunization nurse who works within guidelines of Vaccines for Children (VFC) program giving childhood and adult immunizations, placing and reading PPDs. Other immunizations as determined by health department policies and protocols.

Assists with a variety of public health activities including by not limited to emergency preparedness, pandemic response, maternal/child health, community education, health promotion and disease prevention.

Performs public health nursing functions in accordance with established agency protocols and guidelines.

Builds and maintains effective relationships with fellow staff, internal and external partners and clients.

Demonstrates and promotes a culture of respect and cultural sensitivity in interactions with public and with agency staff.

Provides support for and/or participates in community outreach activities.

Reads and interprets a variety of medical information; uses range of medical equipment.

Educates clients on immunization protocols and follow up care.

Participates in regular meetings with staff, community and other state/regional meetings as appropriate

Demonstrates clear, compassionate verbal and written communication skills with attention to detail. Experienced in the use of electronic health records.

Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to the agency’s mission. Ability to work with diverse individuals and groups on complex issues.

Proficient in use of Microsoft Office, with emphasis on Word and Excel.

Must be able to attend job related events and meetings.

All employees of the agency are considered first responders and may be asked to assist in emergency or disaster response operations.

Physical environment: Typical work hours are Monday-Friday (working weekends and evenings as needed) primarily indoor office setting; operation of office equipment, computers, and phone systems; occasional exposure to environmental contaminants including but not limited to needles, body fluids, chemical hazards, potential exposure to diseases due to contact with symptomatic and asymptomatic patients, ability to lift or move up to 50 lbs.

Maintains Missouri State Board of Nursing Licensure

Maintains Current CPR Certification

Missouri Driver’s License required

Individual Nursing Liability insurance required

Minimum and Preferred Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university and an RN License within the State of Missouri or an Associate Degree (ADN) from an accredited college or university and an RN license within the State of Missouri required. Two years professional staff nursing experience preferred, community or public health nursing preferred.

Salary: $26.00 to $28.00 per hour based on experience and education
