Description

The Industrial Hygienist - Chemical Manufacturing will be responsible for the following:

  • Conduct workplace evaluations to identify potential chemical, physical, and biological hazards.
  • Perform air, water, and surface sampling for toxic chemicals, vapors, and particulates.
  • Assess and monitor noise levels, radiation, heat stress, and ergonomic risks.
  • Develop and implement exposure monitoring programs.
  • Analyze data from exposure monitoring to evaluate worker exposure to hazardous substances.
  • Recommend engineering controls, administrative controls, and personal protective equipment (PPE) to reduce risks.
  • Design and implement industrial hygiene control measures, including ventilation systems, isolation techniques, and substitution of less hazardous materials.
  • Collaborate with engineers and safety professionals to improve process safety and reduce chemical hazards.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory requirements concerning chemical handling, storage, and disposals.
  • Prepare and submit reports on exposure monitoring and compliance activities.
  • Maintain documentation and records of all industrial hygiene activities.
  • Develop and deliver training programs related to chemical safety, PPE use, and emergency response.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents related to chemical exposure, providing root cause analysis and recommendations.
  • Participate in chemical hazard communication programs and maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of current industrial hygiene programs and recommend improvements.
  • Keep up-to-date with industry trends, new regulations, and emerging technologies in industrial hygiene.
  • Lead or participate in safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.

Profile

The ideal Industrial Hygienist - Chemical Manufacturing will have the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Occupational Health, or related field. A master's degree is preferred.
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or the ability to obtain certification.
  • 3-5 years of experience in industrial hygiene, preferably in a chemical manufacturing or similar industrial setting.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, EPA standards, and industrial hygiene sampling and analysis techniques.
  • Proficiency with industrial hygiene equipment, such as air sampling pumps, noise meters, and gas detectors.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to deliver training and reports to diverse audiences.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with process safety management (PSM) in a chemical manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) for classification and labeling of chemicals.
  • Experience with software for data analysis and exposure modeling.

Job Offer

The successful Industrial Hygienist - Chemical Manufacturing will be rewarded with the following:

  • Base Salary of $80,000-$115,000 depending on experience
