BASIC JOB PURPOSE: The Nurse Practitioner (NP) will function as a member of a team of health professionals providing medical services to patients. The NP shall, under appropriate direction and supervision by the medical director in collaboration with the Clinic Manager, provide care, assessment, interpretation of data, and develop and implement therapeutic care plans. May be permitted to perform the following functions. This is not intended to be all-inclusive. PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONS: 1. ACTIVITY: PATIENT ASSESSMENT Performs patient care services in the Clinic. Assumes the responsibility for coordinating, planning, organizing, directing, evaluating, communicating, and teaching required in the provision of health care services. STANDARDS: 1a. Evaluates and manages the care and treatment of patients. Performs an adequate assessment of the patient, including history and physical and a problem-focused exam or review of system(s) as appropriate. Provides patient education and discharge instructions. 1b. Makes appropriate referrals when necessary. Follows up on all critical lab values identified in the time frame specified in the critical lab values policy. All refill requests will be addressed within 72 hours.
