Job Summary:

The Director of Safety will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all safety programs, policies, and procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of all employees, drivers, and operations within our trucking and warehouse facilities. This role requires a proactive leader who will partner with Operations across the Corporate Enterprise to establish a comprehensive safety vision and deep understanding of safety regulations, a commitment to fostering a safety-first culture, and the ability to manage and mitigate risks effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

Safety Program Development : Design, implement, and manage comprehensive safety programs across all trucking and warehouse operations, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations (e.g., OSHA, DOT).

  • Maintain top quartile industry performance
  • Lead a metric based safety program to include Inspections, Accidents per million miles, Preventable & Non-preventable accidents, etc.
  • Policy Enforcement: Enforce company safety policies and procedures, conducting regular audits and inspections to ensure adherence.
  • Training & Education: Develop and deliver safety training programs for drivers, warehouse staff, and management, including orientation for new hires and ongoing education.
  • Ensure Driver training is ongoing throughout the fiscal year including but not limited to E-learning platform, Remedial/post-accident training, Winter Refresher training etc.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential hazards, assess risks, and implement corrective actions to prevent accidents, injuries, and property damage.
  • Manage Accident Registry, OSHA recordable injury records, Cargo Claims/Unreported Damage
  • Record all Accident/Injury types to identify trends & Opportunities for training
  • Incident Investigation: Lead investigations into accidents, incidents, and injuries determining root causes and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Ensure all Safety Action Reviews are completed, signed and documented in files
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay current with safety regulations and ensure the companys policies and practices are compliant with all relevant laws and standards.
  • Establish and Maintain Driver DQ Files, Medical Certifications & self-certifications. Ensure they are accurate and up to date.
  • Manage Annual Review process for MVRs
  • Manage FMCSA Portal to ensure company information is accurate and current
  • Communicate any new regulations or regulation changes per the DOT/FMCSA
  • Emergency Response Planning: Develop and maintain emergency response plans and coordinate drills to ensure preparedness.
  • Reporting & Documentation: Maintain accurate records of safety audits, inspections, training sessions, and incidents.
  • Manage FMCSA/CSA scores and communicate standings monthly to Operations and Executive Leadership Team
