Duties: Conduct comprehensive copyright clearance searches for various forms of media, including films, television programs, digital content, and other creative works. Provide legal guidance and opinions to clients on copyright law, fair use doctrine, rights clearance, defamation, and related legal issues. Draft opinion letters and advise clients on potential copyright infringement risks and mitigation strategies. Collaborate with internal teams, including legal, production, and business affairs, to develop clearance strategies and ensure compliance with copyright laws. Stay updated on developments in copyright law, industry trends, and emerging technologies to provide innovative solutions and proactive legal advice. Requirements: Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school. Admission to the State Bar and in good standing. 2+ years of experience practicing intellectual property law, specifically on copyright clearance and fair use. Strong understanding of copyright law principles and familiarity with fair use doctrine. Ability to work with incomplete information and ambiguous contractual terms. Excellent analytical, research, and communication skills. Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Preferred experience working with clients in the entertainment, media, or technology sectors. Familiarity with digital copyright issues and emerging technologies is a plus. Experience conducting trademark clearance searches is advantageous. Desired familiarity with physical production and production legal drafting.
