Steffens Insurance Group located in Waterford, WI has an immediate opening for a full-time Personal Lines Account Manager. Insurance experience is not required as we will train the right person with the right skill set.


This position is responsible for providing prompt, accurate, courteous service to customers, producers, and company personnel. This is mostly an administrative role including filing, scanning, and taking phone calls but it also includes submitting new business quotes to our carriers.


The ideal candidate will have: Knowledge of computer systems and operations including Microsoft Office, Good listening skills and attention to detail, knowledge of insurance and its products, the ability to be a self-starter with good communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with unscheduled interruptions.


Essential Functions:

  • Grow and develop talents and insurance knowledge to the highest level possible.
  • Provide, with a positive attitude, a high level of support in obtaining, maintaining, expanding, and servicing personal accounts.
  • Service Personal Lines accounts as assigned and aid in collections.
  • Collect premiums per established agency procedures.
  • At the direction of producer, prepare company submissions for new business quotes and prepare proposals of insurance for new Personal Lines clients, including visits to clients with producer when requested.
  • Initiate, screen and prepare endorsement requests for Personal Lines clients.
  • Prepare and process cancellations when required.
  • Prepare and process all requests for certificates of insurance as required within 24 hours of request.
  • Review all applications, policies, endorsements and audits for accuracy.
  • Setup and prepare new account files per agency procedures.
  • Invoice all premium-bearing transactions.
  • Notify the producer of any unpaid audits and request appropriate actions be made according to agency collections procedure.
  • Prepare account summaries as required.
  • Prepare ID cards, evidence of property, certificates, binders, and/or obtain underwriter approval on manuscript endorsements.
  • Deliver policies, and related documents to insured as needed.
  • Maintain suspense items in a timely manner.
  • Prepare expired policies for filing in dead files.
  • Keep current on rates, forms and coverage changes through circulars, bulletins, trade publications, seminars and schools offered.
  • Participate in seminars and classes for skill and knowledge development.
  • Maintain all client activity in the agency automation system.
  • Service personal lines accounts in a manner to eliminate gaps in coverage, thus reducing our E&O exposures.
  • Prioritize workload and/or request assistance as required.
  • Assist other agency departments in securing and/or providing information necessary to issue appropriate policies in their department for which we have a mutual client.
  • Meet with clients to discuss and handle their insurance needs.
  • Assist prospects/insureds until a producer is available.
  • Assist Claims Department in providing coverage information.
  • Keep producers fully informed of all important activities on their accounts.
  • Obtain expiration dates for policies not written by us to follow-up on and quote.
  • Assist other departments and producers in cross-selling and account rounding.
  • Immediately report all malfunctions of system software to the systems manager.
  • Assume other job responsibilities as assigned by producer or department manager.
  • Market new business, determine premiums, present proposals to clients and maintain underwriting and marketing information by carrier.
  • Check new and renewal policies for accuracy in rating, typing, coverages, signatures, and input these transactions to generate billing invoices. Ensure that these items are delivered and/or mailed to the client.
  • Receive phone calls from clients and companies regarding insurance, claims, or administrative problems, and comply with the request and/or refer to the producer only when necessary.
  • Maintain a suspense system to follow up on outstanding orders, correspondence, reports, and follow up on overdue and suspense items.
  • Be familiar with and follow agency E&O guidelines.
  • Maintain electronic and/or paper files in an orderly, up-to-date manner.
  • Perform special projects at management's request.
