Payroll Specialist

If you have a compulsion for accuracy and a minimum of 1-3 years’ experience excelling in a payroll related job (preferably in the Construction or Service Industry) then we’d like to meet you! A specialist, by definition, is a person that has the ability to excel in a specific field, so we are seeking someone who has exposure to payroll processes and the desire to expand their professional experience.

As a Specialist working as part of a team, we will be counting on you to come in, quickly provide support of our current process, and use your skills to help identify ways to improve efficiency wherever possible. Consistent with most construction and service companies, we follow a weekly payroll schedule which requires consideration for multiple jobs, in multiples states, with occasional prevailing wage requirements for just under 1000 employees. On top of that, your day to day responsibilities will include:

Accumulating and reconciling timecards for just under 1000 employees spanning multiple offices across New England
Ensuring reported hours are properly coded to the applicable job
Serving as the primary point of contact for employees to research and resolve payroll-related issues in a timely manner
Maintain employee personnel records which may include access to pay rates, changes in pay, vacation and sick time balances and other sensitive information

Requirements

There are certainly technical skills required to do this job well, however, we have identified more than a few common characteristics in the A-Players on our team, across all departments that we consider more heavily:

Passionately committed to the success of themselves, their team, and Encore
Understanding that sometimes it takes a little extra to get the job done; whether that means staying late, coming in early, taking on an additional project or helping a teammate finish an assignment of theirs
Unwavering belief that putting in that extra effort does not go unnoticed in the long run
A natural desire to be part of a team but an even stronger desire to be the best on said team
Willingness to try new things, admit mistakes, adapt and change

If you exhibit all or some of the characteristics above, you’ve got 90% of what we’re looking for! On top of these intangibles, the technical skills we are looking for include:

You must be a numbers person. Please be honest about this point. If you are not a numbers person, you will not be happy in this position.
1-3 years' experience working in a professional role with payroll responsibility, with experience working with SAGE and/or Certified Payroll a plus
Above average proficiency with technology. Walking in the door, you have to know the Microsoft Suite (Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel above all others) beyond that, we need someone with verifiable ability to adapt to new and emerging platforms
College degree preferred but not required
