Overview:

PURPOSE STATEMENT:

The BCBA will assess an individuals environment and identify antecedents of behaviors, consequences of those behaviors and maintenance factors for the behavior.

Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Complete and update all DMH forms related to the BSI service and submit to the appropriate HCBS facility per timelines established.
  • Facilitate education, process groups, and support groups
  • Train staff and/or family members to maintain and/or continue implementing the BSI plan.
  • Collect data via observation and intervention and document appropriately.
  • Train staff who provide other IDD/DD Waiver services to the individual on how to implement the BSI Plan and collect data.
  • Shadow and/or intervene with undesired behaviors while the individual is receiving any other IDD/DD waiver service.
  • Assist the individual to become more effective in controlling his/her own behavior either through counseling or by implementing the BSI Plan and document appropriately.
  • Document collaboration with medical and other therapies to promote coherent and coordinated services, address behavioral issue and limit the need for psychotherapeutic medications, when applicable.
  • Monitor effectiveness of the BSI Plan and revise and/or update accordingly based on observation, implemented interventions, and review of data collection forms.
  • Participate in the development of the Behavior Support Plan with the Behavior Consultant.
  • Implement the Behavior Support Plan.
  • Collect and analyze data for the effectiveness of the Behavior Support Plan as approved by the Behavior Consultant.
  • Monitor fidelity of implementation of the Behavior Support Plan and reliability of the data.
  • Adjust or revise the strategies identified in the Behavior Support Plan as approved by the Behavior Consultant.
  • Provide face-to-face training on the Behavior Support Plan and implementation strategies to staff and other caregivers. This shall include training for meals, hygiene, and/or community activities, and evenings and weekends noted in the behavior support plan as particularly challenging.
  • Monitor program staff and other caregivers on the implementation of the Behavior Support Plan.
  • Submit documentation to the Behavior Consultant s specified in the Behavior Support Plan with documents progress towards successful implementation of the Behavior Support Plan.
  • Perform other functions and tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Masters degree in a field related to working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities who require behavior services is required.
  • Four or more years of documented experience working with, developing and implementing positive Behavior Support Plans for individuals with IDD is required.

  • Valid BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst)
