The Clinical Float is responsible for a broad variety of patient care, technical and clerical related functions.Coordinates patient flow for physicians and ensures continuity of high level of patient care and efficient patient flow by ensuring the healthcare team following clinical standards of excellent care.Primary Duties and Responsibilities:Performs clinical duties, as appropriate, such as taking vital signs, setting up and assisting with minor procedures, blood pressure, point of care testing, etc.Assists physicians with clinical procedures, such as injections/aspirations, casting, wound management, verifying and preparing medications, and prepping the patientPrepares charts for upcoming clinicsRetrieves and enters patient data for MRIs, X-Rays, EMGs, etc.Coordinates surgery scheduling as needed Ensures rooming of patients in a timely matter in order to maintain clinic flow for physicians and physician assistantsReceives incoming patient calls and returns patient calls in a timely matterRecords accurate, complete, legible and timely documentation as needed in the patient's medical recordProvides patient education related to treatment recommendationsAssists physicians and physician assistants with ordering medications and diagnostic testingScribes for physicians and physician assistancesCompletes patient paperwork in a timely mannerFollows correct procedures for handling and disposing of biohazardous, infectious, and pharmaceutical wastePrepares, cleans and sterilizes, and/or reprocesses, instruments and maintain equipment, according to organizational standardsAnticipates and proactively plans for practitioner and patient needsProvides open and timely communication and information to patients, families, and practitioners (as appropriate)Reports pertinent observations and information, both written and verbal, to appropriate staffAssists in orientation of new team membersMaintains all necessary certifications and licensure, including first aid and/or CPR, state licensure, national certifications, and continuing educationStays up to date on required trainings such as OSHA, Medicare fraud/waste training, blood borne pathogens training, and sexual harassment trainingMaintains strict patient confidentiality and follows all HIPAA guidelinesOther duties as assignedCompetencies: Technical Expertise:The ability to demonstrate depth of knowledge and skill in a technical area; is sought out as an expert to provide advice or solutions in his/her technical areaCustomer Focus:Works with customers to understand needs and ensure that products and services meet their needs.
