DescriptionMiddletown power station is a 353-megawatt (MW) operating power station fueled by oil and gas.The Control Room Operator is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all Plant equipment under their control in accordance with written plant procedures and under the direction of the Senior Operator. In the absence of specific orders and/or directives, the Operator exercises initiative, using experience and good judgment in Plant operation. Comply with plant policies including those concerning safety and environmental.Essential Duties and Responsibilities Oversee the safe, environmentally sound, and efficient operation of plant equipment. Properly operate boilers, steam turbines, combustion turbines, and plant auxiliary equipment under both normal and emergency conditions. Communicate information clearly, both orally and written. Troubleshoot plant equipment to resolve operational problems. Operate various computer systems to receive, analyze, comprehend, and input data. Monitor and record data available using various instruments, recording charts, annunciator systems and other monitoring devices onto shift logs as directed by plant operational procedures. Implement Plant Emergency Procedures as needed. Observe variations in operating conditions and interpret meter and gauge readings. Communicate conditions of plant system and equipment to others. Apply knowledge of power plant operations along with combustion and power generation fundamentals to daily decision-making and work tasks. Discern and respond to verbal and auditory signals from control panel. Work both with and without supervision while carrying out duties. Meet training requirements and assist in training other operators. Ensure shift operations and maintenance PMs are performed. Knowledge of and ability to operate various switches and valves and the effect each has on the total operation. Performance of duties requires working rotating shifts and response to calls 24 hours/day, seven days/week.Performs other duties as assigned.RequirementsHigh school Diploma of GED equivalent.Three or more years of experience with high-pressure boiler and steam turbine operation, with a minimum of one year Control Room experience.Strong technical, mechanical, and organizational skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Proven ability to work in a team environment and perform effectively without close supervision. Must be computer literate and familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel, and e-mail required.Ability to use discretion concerning confidential and sensitive company information. Meet physical requirements of the job such as perform tasks while standing, walking, climbing, and squatting. Individual tasks may require pushing, pulling, or lifting up to 50lbs.Ability to work in extreme environmental conditions (i.e. heat, cold, wet, loud,..etc.)
