The MaineHealth Cancer Care Network (MHCCN) is actively seeking a hematologist-oncologist to join the oncology program at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport, ME and Waldo County General Hospital (WCGH) in Belfast, ME. Highlights of this opportunity include:

  • Rapidly growing and busy general oncology practices at each location staffed by 2 oncologists and 2 APRNs at Pen Bay and 1 oncologist and 1 APRN at WCGH.
  • Supported by on-site infusion center with dedicated pharmacists, nurse navigators, palliative care providers, social workers and other allied staff.
  • The oncology teams at WCGH, Belfast and Pen Bay Medical Center, Rockport, ME complement each other with a variety of shared services.
  • Inpatient care is provided predominantly by hospitalists at each location.
  • Ability to provide comprehensive cancer care to a wide array of complex oncology and hematology patients close to home.
  • Supplemented as necessary by tertiary care oncology services available at Maine Health Cancer Care, South Portland and Maine Medical Center (MMC), Portland. MMC is the state's leading tertiary care hospital with 700 licensed beds.
  • This is a full-time position defined as four days a week in the outpatient clinic setting and one day of administrative time. However, accommodations can be made for those seeking to scale down full practices and part time work.
  • Call rotations shared with MHCCN partners at Pen Bay Medical Center and Mid Coast Hospital, Brunswick, ME are approximately one week out of every 6.
  • The MHCCN is state wide, integrated care delivery network across the southern, central, and coastal regions of Maine and eastern New Hampshire. The dominant cancer care provider in Maine, MHCCN is comprised of 12 hospital partners and provides comprehensive cancer care to more than 6,800 analytic cancer patients annually.
  • MHCCN's comprehensive cancer care program is ASCO QOPI, COC, NAPBC and NAPRC accredited.
  • Fully integrated surgical oncology, radiation oncology, palliative care, patient support/social worker, nutritionist service.
  • Robust research program through membership of the NCI's Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP). Opportunities to be PI or sub-PI of clinical trials.
  • A total of 19 dedicated virtual board meetings for multiple cancer types (GI/GU, liver cancer, breast, lung, neuro-oncology, hematologic malignancies) a month.
  • Leading edge analytics and metrics including membership of ASCO CancerLinQ. EPIC EMR system with BEACON.
  • Faculty position of the Tufts University School of Medicine (TU). Participation in Maine Health's Hematology Oncology Fellowship Program.

Desired Qualifications & Experience:

  • A degree in medicine from an accredited medical school.
  • Successful completion of Residency/Fellowship at an accredited program.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible for Oncology or hematology and oncology.
  • New graduates and those early in their careers are especially encouraged to apply.
