General Summary:
The MRI Technician produces diagnostic MRI scans, assists the radiologist and referring physicians in MRI procedures, and ensures the best standards of quality patient care. The MRI Technician must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, motor/sensory, psychosocial, and safety appropriate to patients. This position has the authority to make technical decisions that will provide the best possible MRI image quality.
Main Responsibilities:
• Responsible for performing MRI cross sectional imaging and other related procedures as directed by a licensed physician. Operates and monitors MRI equipment, program the machine to the proper voltage, current and desired exposure tie as dictated by physician
• Explains testing procedures to patient
• Positions and instruct the patient about the preparation for the MRI test
• Monitors the patient's condition before and after scan to ensure patient safety and comfort
• Administers contrast media accurately under direction of Radiologist both manually and with pressure injector
• Responsible in enforcing magnetic field safety for MRI patients, operator and visitors
• Maintains patient log, equipment service manual, delivery schedule and all related statistics
• Delivers quality patient care and services in accordance with regulated standards
• Maintains patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA guidelines
• Knowledge of all contrast media used in MRI; i.e., dosage, precautions, adverse reactions, and examination of appropriateness
• Problem solving skills to effectively handle radiographic MRI technical occurrences
• A thorough knowledge of 3D anatomy and imaging planes as required by the radiologist
Education/Experience/Knowledge:

  • 1-3 years of experience as a MRI Tech
  • Completion of an AMA approved two-year Radiology program with an AS degree in radiology
  • State License Required preferred
  • ARRT (MR) registered
  • CT Experience preferred, not required
  • Graduates from a four-year program with a BS RT preferred
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support certificate.
  • Must function efficiently and pleasantly under pressure
  • Communicate effectively with different types of people
  • Working knowledge of computers, keyboarding, and various programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc).

Marginal: Must be able to remain in a stationary position at least 25% of the time. Medium work that includes moving objects up to 50 pounds occasionally. Work independently and identify potentially more effective methods of work operations. Observing an area that can be seen up and down or to right or left while eyes are fixed on a given point. Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
