POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Water Treatment Certified Operator

This is a full-time Union eligible position. Provides mechanical maintenance to operational equipment of the Water Treatment Plant, general maintenance of transportation systems in the Municipal Watershed (roads and trails), land and timber management activities, dam inspections and maintenance, stream and soil sampling, shift operation of water treatment plant, water quality analysis, leadership to seasonal plant and watershed employees, buildings maintenance, and associated written and verbal reporting. Also performs the laboratory and operational duties of a Certified Water Treatment Operator in a Class 4 conventional water treatment plant on rotating shifts as needed to cover Shift Operator leaves. This is primarily a day-shift position an estimated 1/3 of the position being spent on shift-work plant operations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Thorough working knowledge of:

Basic chemistry, hydraulics, and mathematics (algebra) necessary to the operation of a Class IV Water Treatment Plant.

Basic concepts of timber harvest, forest and land management, trail design, construction, and maintenance and environmental assessments associated with Watershed Management.

Water quality sampling and analysis techniques and issues surrounding water quality management.

Issues associated with outdoor operations including winter/snow survival techniques.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the duties and responsibilities of the job.

It is expected that persons in this job class will continue to progress in the State certification process culminating in a Level 4 Water Treatment Certification in order to meet the state requirements of Direct Responsible Charge on shift.

Minimum requirements are:

TRAINING: High School Graduation or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years prior experience in an Oregon Class 2 or higher water treatment plant, laboratory examinations and testing, and mechanical operations and maintenance is desired.

Ideally, the applicant will possess an Associate or Bachelor Degree or have significant college-level training in Water Treatment Technology, Chemistry, Biology, or an environmentally related field. Additional training in mechanical operations and maintenance for pumps and other equipment related to water treatment operations is also desired.

CERTIFICATIONS AND/OR LICENSES:

A valid driver license at time of hire is required.

A minimum of an Oregon Class II Water Treatment Certification and Filtration Endorsement or reciprocal equivalent is desired at the time of hire with the ability to qualify for a WT 4 exam within six years.

The current wage for this position is $59,741.73 to $80,499.28 depending on qualifications and experience. New hires that do not have a current certification are typically hired at $57,067.80 to $59,741.73 depending on qualifications.
