Our Material Handling Division , which spans across Mi-Jack RTG cranes, Broderson industrial cranes, LiftKing forklifts, and Greenfield equipment, is hiring a Mechanical Engineer. In this role as an engineer, you will work within the engineering team, on projects based on new product, existing, and prototype designs developing new or improved products, processes, techniques, along with keeping modularity across product lines as it makes sense. Ensure the project is held up to the latest codes and standards. Essential Functions:
  • Plan, conceptualize, and create mechanical designs for new and existing products.
  • Prepare component and system drawings (layouts, assemblies, installation drawings).
  • Working in a structured release environment composing of new releases and engineering change notices (ECN).
  • Perform and review engineering calculations to support the project design. Check drawings for completeness and provide feedback.
  • Collaborate with all machine system development groups in engineering within the company and work with vendors and/or contractors.
  • Participate in departmental meetings.
  • Providing technical specifications and reports.
  • Communicate with the Chief Engineer any updates, new ideas, changes, or issues.
  • Prepare component and system drawings (layouts, assemblies, installation drawings).
  • Component & system drafting, properly annotating drawings with dimensions, surface finishes, welds (AWS D14.1 or D1.1), and tolerance fits for manufacturing and machine assemblies.
  • Perform and review engineering calculations to support the project design. Check drawings for completeness and provide feedback.
Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:
  • Able to work in a structured 3-D environment. 2-D design environment a plus.
  • Self-motivated, work in a team environment and the ability to work with some supervision.
  • Detailed oriented and able to follow customers’ specifications, industry codes and standards.
  • Knowledge in reviewing codes and standards compliance.
  • Understanding bill-of-materials within both drawings and within an ERP system.
  • Strong leadership skills with the proven ability to drive projects to completion.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Knowledge of basic machine design and operation. Industry knowledge in machinery operation and welding.
  • Working knowledge of computer Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Strong CAD skills drawing software 3-D & 2-D. Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD and SolidWorks a plus.
  • Strong ability to manage multiple projects at a time.
  • Ability to work with a cross functional team and communicate effectively with internal stakeholders, outside suppliers, and management.
  • Ability to influence others, regardless of position power or organizational boundaries; ability to hold others accountable.
Work Environment:
This is primarily an office classification, and employees work in an office with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. May work offsite in various environments; travel may be required.
Physical & Travel Demands:
  • The position occasionally bends, stoops, reaches, pushes and pulls drawers to retrieve and file information and lifts and carries reports, records, and other materials that typically weigh less than 30 pounds.
  • Up to 10% domestic and international travel is expected.
Required Education & Experience:
  • Accredited engineering degree with emphasis in mechanical or structural engineering.
  • Minimum 4+ years of work experience in aforementioned engineering discipline.
