A social services organization on Long Island is actively seeking a driven and dedicated professional to join their staff in Suffolk County as their newVeteran Peer Navigator.
Responsibilities:
ThePeer Navigator will:

  • Assist peers in verbalizing personal goals for housing stability
  • Maintain a strong knowledge of VA and community resources
  • Support peers' wellness and recovery goals if applicable
  • Encourage professional, educational and personal growth when appropriate
  • Act as an advocate for Veterans
  • Attend community outreach activities in order to educate and recruit new program
  • participants.
  • Accompany Veterans to various appointments at: DSS, VA, SSA, court, etc.
  • Type case notes on client interactions
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Attend team meetings, supervision and trainings as needed
  • Travel across Nassau and Suffolk Counties to meet with and assist Veterans as needed
  • Performs other duties related to the program as defined by the Regional Director
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • College degree or HS diploma with equivalent relevant experience
  • Must be a Veteran
  • Self-motivated and resourceful
  • Ability to use computers
  • Strong communication skills
  • Must be able to work as a team player or independently
  • Knowledge of local resources, Veteran entitlements or other benefits is a plus
  • Must have a valid NYS Driver's License
