Responsible for the total operation of the Environmental Services department in the St. Luke's Sioux City affiliate. Collaborates with the healthcare team to contribute knowledge and expertise of applicable environmental and infection prevention laws, standards and regulations. All programs, services, and systems implemented by this position directly impact employee engagement, patient satisfaction, productivity, safety, quality and profitability of the department and the hospital.

Responsibilities

Key Accountability: Talent Management

  • Responsible for all aspects of talent management, including but not limited to, hiring, orientation, training, competency, corrective actions, timekeeping, performance evaluation of all staff
  • Develop employee engagement plan and goals
  • Adhere to employee productivity targets
  • Coach and develop the knowledge, skills and abilities of mid-management staff

Key Accountability: Quality Improvement and Regulatory Compliance

  • Develop and implement department strategic plan
  • Develop and implement department performance improvement plan, compiling and analyzing data as needed
  • Collaborate and round with other departments to identify areas of opportunity
  • Develop action plans to meet quality goals
  • Attain patient satisfaction targets
  • Participate in EOC and Safety initiatives
  • Ensure all regulatory guidelines are met
  • Partner with Plant Operations department to ensure quick turnaround of spaces during construction projects and emergency repairs

Key Accountability: Budget Management

  • Understand and work within financial and accounting systems of hospital
  • Prepare annual operating and capital budget for the Environmental Services department
  • Analyze budget variances and develop action plan
  • Manage costs and services provided by outside vendors, including but not limited to, waste, hazardous waste, linen/laundry, specialized cleaning, pest control
  • Oversees environmental services contract for medical office buildings and other offsite building locations
  • Manage labor costs to budget

Basic UPH Performance Criteria

  • Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.
  • Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
  • Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
  • Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
  • Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.

Education:

Associate's Degree in related field or direct and applicable work experience.

Bachelor's Degree in related field

Experience:

3+ years of management experience

Healthcare experience preferred

Cleaning industry experience preferred

License(s)/Certification(s):

Valid driver's license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
